Help for Students

Fluinto is a language practice platform designed especially for heritage language learners and diaspora communities. Many learners grow up connected to a language through family or culture but lack opportunities to practice it confidently. Fluinto helps reconnect learners with their home language through structured speaking practice with real teachers.

While Fluinto focuses on supporting heritage language learners, the platform is open to anyone who wants structured speaking practice. Teachers on Fluinto work with both heritage learners and students who are learning a language for the first time.

Getting started

Follow these steps to begin structured speaking practice.

  • Create your account and complete your student profile.
  • Select the language you want to practice speaking.
  • Choose a teacher to unlock chat and session booking.
  • Start with short speaking sessions to build confidence and fluency.

Choosing a language

Your language choice controls matching, scheduling, and chat.

  • Language selection is required to show the correct teachers.
  • It determines which speaking sessions and times you can see.
  • Many heritage learners use this step to reconnect with a family or community language.

Choosing a teacher

Your teacher guides your speaking progress over time.

  • Choose a teacher for your selected language before you can book a session.
  • This sets your active teacher for that language.
  • Your sessions and chat are tied to your active teacher.

Chat unlock (after teacher selection, before payment)

Chat opens once your teacher is set.

  • Chat becomes available after you select a teacher.
  • You can message your teacher before payment.
  • Booking stays locked until you have access.

Payment & access (subscription or drop-in)

Access is checked automatically when you book.

  • Booking requires access through a subscription or a drop-in session.
  • If your account has trial access, it can be used for eligible group lessons.
  • Payment does not change your teacher. Your booking is linked to your active teacher.

Booking lessons

Speaking sessions and 1:1 sessions use different booking flows.

  • Scheduled speaking sessions use the Schedule page and your active teacher.
  • 1:1 sessions use the 1:1 booking flow and separate availability.
  • Eligibility checks (access, capacity, timing) happen automatically.

Continuity with your teacher

Staying with one teacher often helps with consistency, but you can change when needed.

  • After selecting a teacher, new bookings and chat use your active teacher for that language.
  • You can change teachers from your profile; your past lessons stay in your history.
  • When you switch, future bookings and chat follow your new active teacher.

Switching teachers

Switching teacher continues your learning path with another teacher.

  • You can switch teachers; your past lessons remain part of your history.
  • Your previous sessions remain in your history.
  • Switching updates your active teacher and your chat access.
  • Pick a teacher whose communication style matches your goals.
  • Consistent speaking practice usually gives the best fluency results.
